Functional Coatings

Functional layers allow for the realization of application-specific properties. Functional layers can be applied by means of processes such as sputtering, galvanization, screen printing etc.

Electrical functions – Thin layers of metal or their compounds are applied onto the surface of the carrier ceramics by means of various techniques.

Optically active layers – Mirrors are produced, for instance, by sputtering silver. This requires a good surface quality of the basic material.

Reduction of friction – DLC coatings (Diamond Like Carbon) reduce the adhesion of surfaces. This allows reducing the friction in a tribological system.

Chemically active layers - Porous ceramics can be coated with chemically active materials and used, for instance, as a catalyzer.
