In Aluminum foundry technology, Silicon nitride materials for thermally stressed applications are already established and state of the art.
The main advantages here are corrosion resistance to aggressive melts and low thermal conductivity, which increases the energy balance. An advantageous wetting capacity, which reduces metal and slag adhesion, as well as the abrasion resistance, creates a very high purity of the melt. Thermal shock resistance with maximum temperatures of 1000°C/2192°F and temperature differences of several 100°C/212°F are another advantage.
